I do love a good business story!

In fact, I’ve made purchases based purely on an inspiring story, before I’ve even seen, tested or fully understood the product.

This happened to me recently. I was at a business expo and started chatting to a couple of lovely ladies, who it transpired came from Ukraine.

Make sales without selling with a good business story

That’s me (Nicola) in the middle and Irene Bukur on the right.

They’d fled the country with as much of their luxury skin care products as they could carry. Since then, they’ve been finding different ways to sell their stock in the UK.

They told me that, when it’s safe for their staff to travel to their factory, they are managing to manufacture some products, which they can sell online.

They’ve also started donating their profits to a charity that helps their fellow Ukrainian citizens back home, who are in desperate need of all kinds of support.

As I listened to their story, I became quite emotional. “It’s okay,” they said. “We have hope. The Russians will go, and we will return.”

The conversation then turned to their beautiful display of skin care products, the science behind their creation and the quality ingredients.

But I was already sold and reaching for my credit card!

A compelling business story

This just goes to show how compelling a good business story can be.

You may not have such an emotive story as this, but you’ll have one none the less.

WHY is it so important to you that you do what you do for your clients?

Do you share this story?

If so, how?

And if you keep your WHY, Purpose, Mission (whatever you like to call it) a secret, how can you start using this important message in your marketing?

Your story can make a huge difference.

It’s a way to differentiate yourself from others who offer a similar service to you.

It helps you to define your niche and stand out from the crowd.

And when you’ve developed your niche, you can expect to generate quality enquiries and gain new dream clients.

Developing a niche is part of your marketing strategy.

Skip this step and you’ll be frustrated with your ad-hoc marketing efforts and scattergun approach.

Marketing results will be disappointing and you’ll be be staring at a depleted pipeline of opportunities that aren’t going to bring in the sales and clients you need.

Is it time to get a grip on your marketing?
