Marketing planning for a successful 2014

Is your wow factor staring you in the face?

As 2013 draws to a close it’s a time when majority of business owners will be reviewing the year and setting goals and planning for the next year.

If you work to a business plan you can give yourself a pat on the back. You’d be surprised, shocked even, to learn how many don’t.

A half decent plan will clearly set out ‘what’ the business is aspiring to achieve in the next 12 months. But that’s just it. It’s only half decent. The devil is in the detail and possibly the plan stops before ‘How’ the goals are to be achieved.

The devil is in the detail and the detail is in the marketing plan.

Start by reviewing the results of the marketing activities to date. What worked well and what didn’t have the desired results. What needs to be tweaked or stopped? What other marketing methods not yet used could enhance what you already do; perhaps video?

Who is your ideal customer? Have their characteristics been explored in depth so that you truly understand what makes them attractive to you. Go a step further and ask yourself what motivates them to look for the solution you offer.

Do your products and services solve the problems your ideal customer has? Can you enhance an existing product or introduce a new service that will really make them happy?

And why should they come to you in the first place. What makes you stand out from the crowd? Is your wow factor right under your nose? Perhaps you do something you take for granted that should be included in all your communications.

Take Connick Tree Care as an example. When I was talking to their Managing Director, Mike Connick, I found out that for a number of years now they’ve have been supporting the Luna project by providing the timber to create the most wonderful pieces of outdoor furniture and play items. I think that’s something really worth shouting about!

To help business owners add the ‘How’ and the ‘Detail’ to their plans for 2014, I shall be holding a series of Attractive Marketing Planning workshops.  Not surprisingly, the first one in January on 9th booked up really quickly.  There’s just one place left.  I’ve added an additional date on 12th February so even more peopel can plan for a successful 2014.  More details  www.attractivemarketing.biz/workshops
